Heart muscle damaged during a cardiac event does not grow back. That is the established medical reality that shapes how cardiologists treat survivors and how survivors learn to live with reduced heart function after an attack.
Professor Eldad Tzahor of the Weizmann Institute is researching whether that reality can be changed. His work focuses on molecules that may stimulate regeneration in cardiac tissue that current medicine considers permanently damaged.
